(not drawn to scale)

The exact area for Somarium is 312.5 sq. mi. with a distance of 20 mi. It's roughly the size of New York City. It should be noted it takes only about 15-20 minutes to walk a full, straight mile, and if there were no obstacles or barriers, one could walk the entire distance of Somarium in around 5 hours. Unfortunately due to the changes, there are no forms of working transportation available and this will continue until such methods are rebuilt.

Somarium has a multitude of different places to explore, all mishmashed together in one place. Since we are not including an exhaustive list, players are free to make up reasonable places that could be found within Somarium (ie, Espoir and Somni only). But we do touch on some of the general possibilities that can be found.

UPDATE: Everything is broken. Due to the recent changes, everything is pretty much in a state of ruin. This page will be pretty sparse until the renovations starts and things are built by the characters.

the village: espoir

The little village of Espoir is one of the many places new residents of Somarium may first find themselves when they arrive. Espoir was once a cozy, quiet little place and remnants of this can be found in the buildings left standing. Some are fashioned out of stone and brick, with some cottages made of wood and have a unique distinct flavor to their architecture. It hints more of Medieval Europe, though some look a bit more odd than others. There are some small farms and the fields are now being viciously protected by the scarecrow. They really know how to use those pitchforks.

At the center of the village in the central plaza is a very unique fountain. It's of a giant bunny. But what makes it special is that there is a secret panel that anyone can access. This panel will reveal an opening that leads down into the under ground tunnels that runs underneath the village. It's a complicated network with large rooms, but there is one in particular that houses a strange supercomputer and a broken teleporter. Anyone is free to explore it, but be careful. It's old and some parts may cave in.

The total area is 7.5 sq. mi with a distance of 3 mi.

Surrounding the village on all sides is...

the city: somni
Tag: !location: somni

The city of Somni is quite a change from Espoir. It's filled with skyscrapers, sidewalks, and one-way streets, like one would find in a typical city. Once a bustling city, the city is now a haunted echo of what it used to be. Broken windows, some buildings missing floors...yeah it's in dire shape.

There are five districts within the city, each with a total area of 61 sq. mi. and a distance of 8.5 mi. They are roughly 20 blocks to a mile. Here are some bare bone details about them:

first district: residential

Many of the more hospitable apartments and the parks, including the main "central" one and gardens, can be found here. Think of it more like a suburb. There are even small neighborhoods scattered about. If you like nature and wanna relax, that's the place for you other than Espoir. A few schools are also located here—all of which need to be repaired. The main hospital is located here and is one of the few functioning buildings left.

In addition here is a golf course, a water park, and a lake. Yes, Lake Meridian is found at the outer edges of the district. A little bit of it extends past the barrier and into the desert, but so far no monsters have been able to get past the barrier. There is a lake monster, though. Nessie. But no worries, she's harmless. Unless you provoke her. Finally, we have the floating mountain above the lake, but more details about that can be found later.

second district: shopping
Stores galore! Well. Used to be stores. Items can still be found, some still safely packed away. Touching the food is advised against, however. Large shopping centers, cinemas, karaoke bars, and other places to shop are still standing as well, though what use they will be is another matter.

third district: business & arts
Most of the company buildings will be here, as well as remnants of some hotels and big restaurants. It should be noted this is where most of the skyscrapers are and if you go to the top of the tallest one, you'll be able to see the buildings of the neighboring district (2) as well as the distant lights of the others. Though that's only if you manage to climb the stairs or find a functioning elevator. Red light district? But of course. But again, it's just an empty shell of what it used to be. Perhaps some future interested persons may set up shop...

fourth district: industrial/slums
Most likely the symbol of Somarium as it is the most run down and degraded district. This is particularly so the closer you get to the desert. There may be signs that close off certain sections, too. You'll find old factories, labs, as well as very old run down apartments. The bad side of town? This was definitely it.

Stashes of old weapons and drugs are likely to be found here.

fifth district: government
Here you'll find many law offices, the court house, and the police and fire departments. There's even a capitol building, but the doors are locked tight, almost as if they were sealed by magic. Good luck breaking into that one.

There is also a carnival amusement park that can be found in the innermost part of the district though it probably looks like a haunted carnival. Beware of clowns

Like the village, residents are free to claim anything that's open. They're even highly encouraged to start their own shops and businesses. At this point it may be necessary.

But be advised—there is no source of protection from the dangers that lurk outside the city. No magical barriers, no defensive walls—nada. The city is completely exposed to the elements.

the floating mountain
Diagram (not to scale)
Tag: !location: floating mountain

Set high above floating around in the skies, with the distance between the ground to the base at about 3000 feet, is a floating mountain. It drifts lazily above Somarium, though it doesn't move particularly fast. In fact sometimes it will just remain in a certain spot for long periods of time. The mountain itself is about 5000 feet high, so it's not a super huge mountain, but it is rather wide. A mile long in fact, which is about as wide as the lake, so it's more like a mountain range. This also means that it also has a small valley and a deep forest inside it.

It's actually easy to access. If you can't fly, a strange, circular teleportation pad can be found by the southwest corner of the lake with two golems beside it. When your character steps on the pad, the golems will raise their arms and something like a giant bubble will form around the characters and they will float to the mountain, landing on another pad that is there.

There are all types of wildlife roaming around, typical of what you'd find on Earth. If your characters somehow manage to get to the center of the mountain through the caverns, they'd just find huge sealed double doors with strange writing encrypted on it.

Note: The teleportation cards can be used to access the mountain.

Other places to note is the airship hangar and the Coliseum. At the Coliseum, characters can use the various training facilities to train and fight one another. They can even create their own battle stages, similar to a video game. There is also a VR-training room that characters can utilize if they don't want to get physically hurt while training. One last thing to note about the Coliseum is its weapon shop. Characters will find their canon weapons available, if a little expensive. This is still accessible even after the change.

the desert: saburra

Tag: !location: saburra

The Saburra desert is one of the more dangerous parts of Somarium. Where the desert borders along the city, there are remnants of what were once buildings falling to pieces and sinking into the sand. These can be found throughout the desert, although they get more sparse the further out into the desert you wander. It's not advised to go out too far, though, as the Saburra desert is home to multiple different beasts and critters, many of which don't like human visitors.

Located further out lies some ruins. Many mysterious rooms can be discovered here. But be careful! Monsters have made their home deep within, so it can be dangerous. A secret room was discovered filled with strange paintings on the walls. They seem to indicate certain events, but are they actually historical records or just myths and legends?

As for the rest of the desert, many have explored and there are now maps available. But time has passed and things have changed, so who knows what could be out there now.

As one wanders along, eventually the desert flattens out, and in time (and by time, we mean weeks) you'll eventually stumble across...

the beach and beyond

The beach is the very edge of land in Somarium's territory, and very quiet all around from the looks of it. What lies beyond it remained a mystery until not too long ago. It seems that there are other cities and more territories beyond. Yet it took some time before those from the outside came in. Perhaps entering and leaving is still not so simple?

Along the beach, explorers will find various mountain ranges. But if one were to try to sail the waters, they will find that the water drops off into a giant chasm. Should one accidentally fall into it, they will respawn back in Somarium.

ob holm

Tag: !location: ob holm

Several miles out, tucked in-between a range of desert cliffs and a large oasis, lies a large and prosperous desert oasis town: Ob Holm. Due to the attack in July 2012, everyone was forced to evacuate Somarium and had to remain for some time. There are three districts: Upper, Middle, Lower. The high end and rich lived in the Upper whereas the poor and shadier denizens lurked the Lower. The Middle District being the largest had most of the resorts, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants, and a large bazaar. Even more poignant is the fact that Ob Holm has a dream gate that connects it to several other cities located around the world, but it is currently deactivated due to the war.
